Monthly Writer’s Therapy Group (6 months) — beginning March 2027
A monthly therapeutic group for writers who want to explore the psychological and emotional life of their creative work.
This will be a safe and confidential space specifically for writers to explore what happens psychologically around creative work: blocks, exposure, shame, perfectionism, envy, fear of being seen, success, failure, criticism, comparison, identity, avoidance, the internal critic, loss of connection to the work, and the many strange things that happen when something wants to be written and another part absolutely does not want it to be written.
Meeting once a month for six months, this group offers a space to explore what may be happening beneath the surface of your creative process. Rather than teaching writing technique or trying to make you more productive, we will be interested in exploring the relationship between your writing and your inner life.
The group itself will also be part of the work: a small, confidential space in which writers can speak honestly about experiences that are often surprisingly difficult to talk about elsewhere.
Monthly meetings give you time to reflect and return to your writing in between sessions, to notice what shifts, what gets stuck, what emerges and what repeats — and to bring those experiences back to the group.
You do not need to arrive with a clearly defined problem. You may be actively struggling with your writing, returning to it after time away, working successfully but finding the process emotionally difficult, or simply curious about what your creative life might reveal when it is given sustained attention.
The group is open to writers at all stages, forms and genres. You do not need to be published or writing professionally.
About me
I’m an accredited transpersonal and integrative psychotherapist with a particular interest in the relationship between creativity and the inner life.
Before training as a psychotherapist, I spent 15 years working as a literary editor in major publishing houses, and writing and the creative process have remained an important thread throughout my professional life. My therapeutic approach is interested not simply in removing obstacles, but in becoming curious about what they may be trying to express — and what might emerge when we give them our attention. I have been working individually with writers in my therapeutic practice for the last seven years, and teach and facilitate Creativity to psychotherapy trainees.
How the group works
We will meet online (via Zoom) once a month for six months, for 90 minutes.
The group will be limited to 6–8 writers, allowing enough space for individual experience while also making use of the richness of working together.
This is a closed group, so participants commit to the full six months rather than attending individual sessions.
Six Saturday mornings, 10.30am–12pm:
20 March | 10 April | 15 May | 19 June | 17 July | 18 September 2027
No session in August
Online (via Zoom)
£360 for the six-month group
6–8 participants
Registering your interest does not commit you to joining the group. We will arrange a brief conversation before places are confirmed to make sure the group is an appropriate fit.
Terms and conditions
Participants commit to the full six-month group process.
It is not possible to be in individual therapy or have 1:1 sessions with me for the duration of the group process. This protects the boundaries and integrity of the group process.
This group is not intended to provide support for acute mental health conditions. We will discuss relevant therapeutic and mental health history before your place is confirmed.
Because this is a closed group, missed sessions cannot be refunded or transferred.
